At the Maasai Mara University Debate Club ("we", "us"), we value your privacy. This statement explains what data we collect during the registration process and exactly how we use it.
1. What Data We Collect
To facilitate the tournament, we collect the following information:
- Personal Identification: Full Name and University/Institution.
- Contact Information: M-Pesa Phone Number.
- Role Details: Participation category (Debater, Judge, Public Speaker) and Team details.
- Professional Credentials: CVs/Experience documents (strictly for Judges/Adjudicators).
- Payment Records: Transaction reference codes and payment status.
2. How We Use Your Data
We do not sell or trade your data. Your information is used strictly for the following purposes:
A. Tournament Logistics
- Tabulation: To input your name and team into the debate software (e.g., Tabbycat) for generating matches.
- Verification: To confirm your student status with your respective university if required.
- Certification: To print accurate names on participation certificates and awards.
B. Payment Processing
- Your phone number is used to trigger the M-Pesa STK Push via our payment partner (Lipia Online).
- We store the transaction reference to resolve any payment disputes.
C. Adjudication Quality
- Judges' CVs are reviewed by the Chief Adjudication Panel (CAP) solely to assign judge rankings and ensure fair debate moderation.
3. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We only share data with essential service providers:
- Payment Processors: Your phone number is processed by Safaricom M-Pesa and our API provider (Lipia/KreativeLabs) to complete the transaction.
- Security: We do not share your contact details with third-party advertisers.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored in a secure database accessible only to authorized Tournament Administrators. Files (CVs) are stored in a protected directory and are deleted after the tournament audit is complete.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to request correction of your details (e.g., misspelled names) or deletion of your data after the tournament concludes. Please contact the administration for such requests.
